April 30 marks the final day of Mr. Kelly Pender’s tenure as Frontenac County CAO. He served in the position for almost exactly 10 years. He achieved many things for Councillors, residents, and staff during his tenure. Perhaps most notably, he championed an enduring culture of professional excellence, mutual respect and support, and interpersonal understanding.
“I want to thank Mr. Pender, on behalf of Frontenac County Council, for his guidance, dedication, and friendship this past decade,” says Warden Frances Smith. “He leaves County and staff better off than when he arrived, and there’s no better legacy than that. Thank you, Kelly, and best wishes for whatever you choose to do next.”
“Mr. Pender’s expertise and guidance over the years has proved very valuable to me and my Council colleagues,” says Deputy Warden Ron Vandewal. “We will all miss his professionalism and expertise. I will personally miss our car-ride conversations, even his corny dad jokes. I wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
“I want to thank Kelly for his leadership, mentorship, and friendship these past 10 years,” says Mr. Kevin Farrell who succeeds Mr. Pender as Frontenac County CAO from May 1. “He leaves behind very big shoes to fill but he has taken every step to ensure the transition is a smooth one. He’s a very decent person. His skill and humility are examples to us all, and I know everyone will miss him greatly.”
Those who know Mr. Pender realize that he would rather not be lauded publicly, preferring instead a more collaborative sentiment: “Let’s celebrate all that we accomplished together:” So, on behalf of Frontenac County staff, we say simply, “You inspire us to accomplish a lot. Thank you, Kelly.”
Mr. Pender will remain on Frontenac County staff to consult on the transition until June 30.
