From September 5 to September 7, 2025, the public can join farms, businesses and community organizations to participate in Open Farms 2025 to learn more about the importance of agriculture in the region.
The weekend calendar offers opportunities to connect, explore, and learn about farming and local food sources. Bring friends and family to explore and learn about the region’s farms, farmers markets, and the community connection.
Visitors will be welcomed at locations across Frontenac County and Kingston to enjoy culinary experiences featuring locally grown and produced products, farmers markets, interactive experiences, plowing matches and more. The featured event this year is Sunday in the Country, taking place at the Frontenac Plowing Match on September 7.
“There’s no better way to understand and appreciate where our food comes from than by meeting the people who grow it,” says Debbi Miller, Community Development Officer, Frontenac County. “Open Farms is about opening doors — to farms, to stories, to learning and to deeper connections with our local food systems.”
This initiative is a collaboration with farms, businesses and community organizations that have partnered with Frontenac County, South Frontenac Township, and Tourism Kingston. It includes a variety of events and locally focused menus from participating restaurants.
Please join the kick-off event for Open Farms on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 4 p.m. at the Frontenac Farmers Market in Centennial Park in Harrowsmith. The Frontenac Farmers Market takes place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
There will be speeches and an official ribbon cutting at the launch.
