Recommendations from Committee of the Whole to be debated at November 15 Council meeting

Glenburnie, ON – Frontenac County completed two days of budget deliberations in Glenburnie this week. Held October 25 and 26, Council reviewed community projects, service level changes and business plans as presented by staff.

The budget meetings were held in Committee of the Whole, which although is comprised of all of Council, is a committee of Council. No internal funding requests for service level changes or funding requests for external agencies were approved.

At the committee meeting it was recommended that Council considers providing $55,061 per year for 10 years to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, $6,000 to the Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington and $30,000 to the Frontenac Transportation Services. The request for funding for the Frontenac Arts Fund was referred to the County’s Community Development Advisory Committee for further investigation. The decisions made will now be forwarded to the November 15 Council meeting for further consideration and ratification.

“I am pleased with the 2018 budget approval process so far and I am looking forward to more discussion at our November 15 Council meeting,” said County of Frontenac Warden Ron Vandewal. “There will be some difficult decisions ahead but to some degree that is the nature of budget talks,” Vandewal said.

If approved at the November Council meeting, Council will need to pass a by-law adopting the 2018 budget, which may happen at the November meeting or may be delayed until the December 20 Council meeting depending on the number of changes that could potentially be made in November.
