Social Programs and Activities

The County of Frontenac actively participates in the development and delivery of the Local Service Realignment (LSR) Agreement between the County of Frontenac and the City of Kingston to ensure fair and equitable access to a variety of social programs and services such as the Ontario Works Social Assistance Program, Provincial Child Care services, social housing, and Provincial Offences Court. The Rural/Urban Liaison Advisory Committee (RULAC) is comprised of elected representatives from County Council and City Council, and meets at least quarterly to discuss issues relating to LSR services.

As of January 1, 1998, the City of Kingston's Social Services Division is the delivery agent for the Ontario Works Social Assistance Program, Provincial Child Care services and Social Housing services for the geographic areas of the City of Kingston and the County of Frontenac.

On March 27, 2000, the City of Kingston assumed responsibility for the administration of the Provincial Offences Court and the proceedings under the Provincial Offences Act (POA).
