Resident Information
Management, staff and volunteers are here to serve our residents and help meet their diverse needs. We are a community of people who care about each other.
When a resident is admitted to Fairmount there will be a period of adjustment to the new environment. The Home Area Health Care Team will pool their efforts in an attempt to make the resident comfortable and help him/her to feel at home. The kindness and assistance of other residents will also be especially helpful at this time. The age-old maxim that “life is worth living” has an even greater significance in our complex, modern culture. Progress in the scientific and technological fields serves to improve the health standard of our nation, and contributes to the increasing life span of our citizens. The challenge is to have meaningful activity, a happy spirit, and joyful days.

The following information relates to questions that we are frequently asked.
Billing/Payments
Invoices are mailed the beginning of each month for the previous month’s charges.
Payments may be made by cash, cheque, or automatic withdrawal. You can pay monthly as you receive your invoices or leave postdated cheques. Payments can be made in person (during office hours), by mail, or dropped into the locked Accounting/Payroll slot located at the reception desk next to the elevator.
Building Access and Security
Please note that our front doors are locked at 9 p.m. each evening. After 9 p.m., use the intercom at the front entrance to call the nurse to let you in.
When entering the first floor North unit, you will see a red button on the wall that you must push and then pull the door open. There is a release code to get out of the 1st floor unit - please ask the Nurse to assist you to leave. There is a 30 second time limit to go out the door before the alarm sounds.
Valuables
Please do not keep valuable articles or large amounts of cash in your room. Fairmount Home does not assume responsibility for personal belongings left in residents’ rooms. Small items of value and money may be left with the R.N. for safekeeping.
Valuables such as glasses, watches, hearing aides, dentures and razors should be brought to the Nurses station on the unit for logging in charts and labeling with the resident’s name.
Safety
Any electrical appliances brought into the Home must be C.S.A approved and inspected by our maintenance department prior to use. The use of extension cords is prohibited (Isolation power bars are acceptable).
Smoking
A smoking room is not provided for residents.
Fire Safety
In case of fire:
-
When the Fire Alarm Sounds
Residents must remain where they are and wait for instructions from staff (unless the fire is in their immediate area). - Do not use the telephone.
- Do not use the elevator.
- Visitors may remain with the resident or report to the main lobby.
If you discover a fire
Pull the closest fire alarm (located at exit doors) and get help.
Fire Drills are conducted monthly.
Fire Exits are located at each stairway.
Call Bells
Every resident has easy access to a call bell to summon help.
Call bells are located in resident rooms, all bathrooms, all lounges, and in public areas.
Housekeeping Services
Housekeeping staff are on duty daily.
Housekeepers are responsible for keeping bathrooms, sitting rooms, dining areas, all rooms and hallways clean and germ free.
Clothing/Laundry Service
All linen and personal clothing are laundered at Fairmount Home. Our staff will label all clothing with the resident’s name.
We encourage the use of wash and wear, easy to put on clothing.

Any new clothing or clothing received as presents should be sent to the unit’s Nursing station for logging in charts and labeling of the resident’s name.
