Mr. John Weatherall receives Frontenac County 2017 Access Award

Mr. Weatherall donated land on Wolfe Island to build a seniors apartment building there

Glenburnie, ON – Mr. John Weatherall received the County of Frontenac 2017 Access Award. Mr. Weatherall, who donated land on Wolfe Island to build a seniors apartment building there, received the award from Neil Allen, Chair of the Frontenac Accessibility Advisory Committee at the annual Warden’s Reception in Sydenham yesterday (Thursday November 23).

“Thanks to the vision, drive and generosity of Mr. John Weatherall, who donated the prime land in Marysville to Frontenac Islands Township for the construction of its seniors apartment building, Wolfe Island now has a seniors apartment complex that will allow seniors to age in their community,” said Allen.

In 2014 the County of Frontenac developed three Wildly Important Goals, which included addressing a shortage of affordable seniors housing by leveraging and funding the construction of a project in each of the four Frontenac townships. The grand opening of the seniors apartment building in Marysville is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday November 25).

The County of Frontenac, in partnership with the Frontenac Accessibility Advisory Committee (FAAC), created this award in 2013 to recognize persons, groups or organizations that have made or are making a significant contribution beyond legislated requirements, towards improving access for persons with disabilities in the County of Frontenac.

Access can include designing new or renovated buildings, an employment program, a transportation system, a recreational or leisure program, or anything that contributes significantly to persons with disabilities living independently.

Previous recipients of the Access Award include the Bellrock Community Hall Association (2016), Doug Lovegrove (2015), Joe Ryan and Brenden Hicks of Accessible Living (2014) and the Verona Lions Club (2013).
