Fairmount Auxiliary

Auxiliary meeting by the lakeOur Auxiliary has been active since 1968 and continues to be involved with special resident activities as well as in fundraising.

The monetary donations, fundraising and volunteer time has resulted in an improved quality of life for our residents.

All of the things the Auxiliary does are dependent on a very dedicated and talented group of individuals who volunteer their time. The Auxiliary consists of volunteers, family members & friends of Fairmount Home.


Over the years the Auxiliary has made many contributions to Fairmount including:

  • Annual funding for special occasion bus trips to see fall colours, Christmas lights and attend community outings
  • Blanket warmers worth more than $8,000 to bring comfort to the residents
  • Televisions, VCRs and CD players for all resident home areas
  • Large tables for special functions and patio furniture
  • Mobile blood pressure machines
  • The awnings in the Davies Garden area
  • Digital ear thermometers
  • Digital photo frames for the resident home areas
  • Annual Christmas presents for all 128 residents

These are just SOME of the Auxiliary’s contributions.

There are three main ways we raise funds:

  1. Yearly Garage Sale
  1. Yearly Tea & Bake Sale with a white elephant table
  1. Through the display case in the lobby where we sell interesting small items such as jewelry, knick knacks and china. This has proven to be a fun way of raising funds, and gives residents, staff and visitors to the home a chance to purchase nice items at a reasonable price.

Donating items 

When residents first move into Fairmount, they are usually downsizing. If a resident or family member has small items to donate to the auxiliary they would be greatly appreciated. There have been times where a donated item is much too valuable to put into a garage sale. In these cases, we search out a more appropriate venue in which to sell it.

Family Members

The Auxiliary is always looking for new family members to join and help continue the great work being done to benefit our residents. Family members provide valuable input regarding the most effective ways to distribute the funds raised through Auxiliary events. Your family member may be able to attend meetings with you, and/or work at events with you, so you are still sharing valuable and meaningful time together.

Auxiliary Volunteer Roles

There are a variety of ways you can get involved in the Auxiliary, with time commitments of a few hours a month, or a few hours a year! Some of the most popular roles include:

  • Auxiliary Executive positions such as President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary
  • ‘Day-of-event’ helpers for set-up, manning tables, or clean-up
  • Bake Sale or Garage Sale Convener
  • Ticket sellers for raffles
  • Baking items for a sale
  • Members at large

 

 

 

 

Joining the Auxiliary

If you are interested in learning more about the work of the Auxiliary, guests are always welcome to sit in on a meeting – no strings attached! You can also speak to Auxiliary members at any of our special events or fundraising functions to learn more about the good work being done.
